Entrepreneur or Wantrepreneur, which one are you?

By Lee

First let’s define the two. An Entrepreneur is an individual who has a business idea or a vision to solve a problem or lack of in the marketplace or an opportunity to improve an existing business and will take the necessary steps to complete and implement this idea, even under heavy scrutiny and all the risks involved.

A Wantrepreneur is someone who thinks they are an Entrepreneur. This individual has all the great ideas for starting a business, solving a problem, or improving the performance of an existing business but NEVER TAKES ACTION or FINISHES WHAT THEY STARTED. They always have an excuse like:

– I don’t have enough time
– I don’t have not enough money
– or they are simply scared to fail

So what’s the reason why most Wantrepreneur’s never take action? Their MINDSET.

This is something I’m currently struggling with and taking the necessary steps to hopefully get me over this hump in my life and development.

Can I tell you how many times I’ve started a new idea, project, start-up but something happened along the way. Either something else came up, a new idea that looked more promising, not managing my time wisely and focusing on the task at hand, or the biggest reason why I think I never left the Wantrepreneur’s realm – FEAR. I got in the way of my own success. Fear of failing, fear that people will not like my idea. Fear that I can actually do this and people will pay money for my product or service.  Fear my friends and family will laugh at me because what I’m doing is dumb and a waste of time !!!

This is where you need to learn how to change your mindset and let go of your fear and Just DO IT. Do the things that are uncomfortable for you. Get out of your comfort zone. Stop thinking about all the preconceptions you might have and don’t let what people might think or say get in your way of your success. That’s what makes an entrepreneur. They try and try and if they fail, they get up and try it again. They learn from their mistakes and keep on moving.

As human beings we always want acceptance from our friends, family and peers but what we need to realize is we can’t please everyone.  A quote from one of my favorite books from Dale Carnigie “When dealing with people, let us remember we are not dealing with creatures of logic, we are dealing with creatures of emotion, creatures bristling with prejudices and motivated by pride and vanity.” Knowing we can’t please everyone, before we do something, might help us deal with that fear of rejection.

The people who are really our friends, won’t judge us and will actually support us in our efforts. These are the people you want to surround yourself with, to help you become successful. People who are negative and don’t understand, are people who will only bring you down. These negative people are not a good influence for you and should be cut of your life, if you want to become successful. Talk to any successful millionaire and they will tell you the exact same thing. Surround yourself with as many positive like minded people and you too will become successful.

Every morning when I get up, I read this inspirational post from Davy Kestens called Just Do It. http://www.davykestens.be/self-improvement/just-do-it

I love this first paragraph, it says it all:

“Seriously. Just do it!

Over the past 18 months, I completely shifted the way I looked at the world.

I adjusted what I did with my time, I changed the people I hung out with, I did things that were WAY out of my comfort zone, I went to the other side of the world, I gathered the best and brightest people I could find, I had those people invest over a million in my company, I convinced Finn – an awesome go-getter – to join my company. I interviewed Richard Branson on stage and spoke at an entrepreneurship event to university students in my country, while I never even graduated college. And it doesn’t even feel like a big achievement. I just did it, but it wasn’t that hard. I just did it.”

Are you in the same boat as me? Do you need to learn how to shift your mindset. Do you need to learn how to let go of all your fears? Do you need to learn how to get out of your comfort zone? I’d like to hear how you’re trying to accomplish this ….
